Lay the old lock and new lock side by side to get length.\u003cbr\u003e 2. The top shootbolt extension has serrated teeth, the middle extension has a receptacle (coupler) for the teeth to fit into. Mark the Top extension for proper length.\u003cbr\u003e 3. Extend the top bolt before cutting. \u003cbr\u003e 4. With the shootbolt extended (locked position), using a hacksaw, cut off the same amount from the front (smooth side) and back side of the mechanism ( serrated teeth).  \u003cbr\u003e 5. You want as many teeth to fit into the receptacle as possible, gap between serrated ends must be less than 3 teeth\u003cbr\u003e 6. Install cover plate to reinforce connection between middle and upper shootbolt extension.\u003cbr\u003e 7. Test operation of door BEFORE closing. The small Mishanding latch must be depressed to operate lock.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003e Operation:\u003c\/b\u003e Manual Function\u003cbr\u003e To lock door, Lift handle and then turn thumb turn or Key to extend deadbolt \u003cbr\u003e To unlock door, Turn Thumbturn or key and then depress lever.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003e To Change Handling \/ Reversing Latch\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Latch handing may be changed by inserting small screwdriver into small hole in back of latch and pushing forward, Twist latch and release.
